Inclusion networks (continued)
The RISE (Race, Inclusion, Support and Education) Network aims to raise awareness and educate our colleagues on race-related issues and under-represented ethnic backgrounds within the legal sector. The RISE Network embraces the firm’s commitment to inclusion, driving meaningful conversations around race and cultural understanding.
In the last 6 months, we have brought the joy and experiences of religious and cultural celebrations (Diwali, Lunar New Year, Eid and Hannukah) into the office through food, gifts, personal stories, decorations and education. We also had the honour of hosting the Law Society’s Black History Month 2023 event for the UK legal sector. To celebrate the theme, ‘Saluting our Sisters’, we invited a panel of influential and leading black female lawyers - Deputy High Court Judge Margaret Obi, Barrister and Corporate Director Dr Gifty Edila, Social Mobility Ambassador and Senior Associate Whitney Joseph and Solicitor-Advocate Evelyn OforI-Koree to share their experiences and advice about how they navigated their exceptional careers in law, their contributions to the legal industry and the challenges they faced.
Being at the forefront of our RISE network has allowed me to contribute to creating a welcoming, diverse and harmonious working environment at Fieldfisher. When people have an enhanced understanding of other working around them, it encourages greater respect and better collaboration, performance and outcomes. The legal industry has transformed in the last 20 years and continues to make great strides. However, it is still important that we continue to share experiences, allow people to be themselves, celebrate our differences and showcase role models.
